“Hearing Awareness Week” 8th-10th of April 2013.

A.E.A. Participated at the “Hearing Awareness Week” in the European Parliament in Brussels on the 8th-10th of April 2013.
Member of the European Parliament Ádám Kósa in cooperation with the European Hearing Instrument Manufacturers Association (EHIMA) and the European Federation of Hard of Hearing (EFHOH) organized the Hearing Awareness Week in the European Parliament.

The A.E.A. President, Franco Gandolfo, was invited and our E.C.A.T. (European Committee for Audiology and Technology) President, Mark Laureyns, and his students* were in charge of organizing accessible hearing tests for all members of parliament and their teams, between 8 and 10 April 2013 and informing them on the consequence of hearing loss.

On the 10th of April a breakfast meeting was organized with multiple interventions. Conclusion was that Hearing impairment is the biggest invisible disability in the world and untreated hearing loss is estimated to cost some 213 million euros a year in Europe. During this breakfast meeting, Franco Gandolfo, asked the members of the European Parliament to promote the recognition of hearing aid professionals throughout Europe. “To date, our profession is recognized in only thirteen EU-countries.” Kósa asked Gandolfo to give his comment and the details on different countries in writing, so that he can use the information in the future.
